Doors Open & Mothers Day Weekend at the Hamilton Farmers’ Market 

 The Hamilton Farmers’ Market is planning several events on May 7, 2011 as a participant in the 9th annual Doors Open Hamilton and to celebrate Mothers Day.

Event Schedule for May 7

Doors Open Hamilton Tours 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
The Farmers’ Market is one of over 50 featured sites for Doors Open Hamilton. The public are invited to take self-guided tours of the market, originally built in 1980 and recently renovated along with the adjacent Central Library. Meet nearly 70 vendors offering a variety of quality, affordable and locally grown as well as ethnically diverse products, and check out the historic, 3000-pound, fully-restored Birks Clock.

Kids in the Kitchen 10:00 am – 10:30 am
Learn how to plant an herb garden for mom and snack on a tasty baked treat that kids can make at home using fresh herbs.

Market Fresh Cooking Demonstration 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
Garden Party in the Community Kitchen with vendor Our Father’s Farm. Live music, taste tests, a food demonstration and even live skits!

Health and Herb Presentation! 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
A Presentation of Health Food & Herb by Hamilton Chinese Community Service Centre. Join doctors of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and learn about the benefits and uses of healthy herbs such as ginger, dandelion and ginseng.

Market Architecture Presentation 1:30 pm – 2:00 pm
Presentation in the Community Kitchen by Architect David Premi as he sheds light on the market renovation, design and his vision.

Annita O’Day Duo 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm
Music by the Annita O’Day Duo (Jazz) in the market food court.

Regular shopping hours at the Hamilton Farmers’ Market are Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:00 am – 6:00 pm; Fridays 8:00 am – 6:00 pm; and Saturdays 6:00 am – 6:00 pm.
