The Ancaster Old Mill and executive chef Jeff Crump are planning a new farm called the Earth to Table Farm: Agricultural Education Centre in Flamborough. The site is a 10 acre piece of property in the area of Clappison’s Corners. The news was just announced this morning so there isn’t a ton of information circulating about it, but I’m sure there will be soon.
The farm will be a learning centre about sustainable farming and local food and will distribute locally grown, organic food to consumers in the community. Crump says that part of the programming will include cooking classes and children’s activities.
The initiative is supported by Ontario’s Rural Economic Development Program, which is part of the McGuinty government’s Open Ontario Plan. The project received $97,500 from the program which aims to build stronger rural communities in order to provide a thriving Ontario job market and social, cultural, tourism and recreational programs and initiatives in rural areas. The funds will assist with start-up costs, and once fully realized the farm will create 35 jobs in the area.
